New handbook on applying behavioral insights to increase tax compliance

Feb 05, 2025

As part of an ongoing project with the tax authorities in Austria, Belgium, and Portugal, the European Commission just published a methodological handbook for applying behavioral insights in tax administrations. The guide provides practical tools for diagnosing compliance barriers, designing behavioral interventions, and embedding new approaches into tax processes. The handbook is meant as a toolbox for authorities and policymakers who wish to apply behavioral insights in their work (Press Release).
